Just about a year ago, Boston Indie Rock band Vundabar released “Aphasia” and “Ringing Bell”, two songs which would become the lead off tracks for their fifth album Devil for the Fire. Dreamlike at times and jolted at others the grooves on this album shift between nostalgic and melancholic. All in all, Devil for the Fire is a study in opposites as the energies of the tracks ebb and flow. Tracks vary from the dark gothic throb of the title track to songs such as “Nosferatu” which verges on Kinks style 60’s mod rock. Throughout the album we encounter delicate bends, precisely timed chords hits, the vocal falsetto that singer Brandon Hagen has become known for, and a reverb wash that will leave you in a dreamlike blissed out state.
