Washington D.C.’s Lightmare run the gauntlet of influences on their latest album, Dirt. There’s a little bit of everything that appeals to a little bit of everyone. Falling under the “rock” umbrella, the six-piece band add multiple layers to their songs, giving the music a rounded out sound that is familiar yet tough to simply describe to someone. While difficult to write a pinpoint description of their sound, it is clear that Dirt is a majestic album. Lightmare’s second album opens with “Hunger,” a short, spoken-word piece led by vocalist Shady Rose. It leads in nicely to the title track, which sets the tone for what is to come with the following 11 songs (“This Body of Mine” is also spoken word and closer, “Our Apocalypse,” is a hybrid that gives the album a fitting ending).
