Chilean black metal machine Xalpen are set to release their first, full-length record, Sawken Xo On, July 30 via Black Lodge Records. Sawken Xo On is seven tracks of madness with the shortest tune, “Devourer Of Light,” clocking in at four minutes and 44 seconds. What makesXalpen an intriguing act is their reverence for the Selk’nam / Onawo or Ona tribe, now considered extinct, once indigenous to the Patagonian region of Southern Argentina and Chile. The title of this record, Sawken Xo On (translated “3 Shamans”), as well as track four, “Han K’win Saik,” are spelled in the native tongue of the Selk’nam tribe.
